Slow Food Lake Tahoe is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, affiliated with Slow Food USA and Slow Food International, based in Truckee, CA. Our chapter was founded in 2004 to promote growing, preparing, eating and accessing local food.
Our Mission: Slow Food Lake Tahoe's mission is to connect our community to the enjoyment of good, clean and fair food by inspiring a self-reliant food culture. We educate the community about growing, preparing and accessing local and sustainable food. Good, clean and fair food for all.

We provide opportunities for physical health by improving diet and increasing exercise
- We supply organically grown food from the food bank garden to those in need (683 pounds)
- We inspire people to volunteer in the food bank garden and provide opportunities for exercise in our gardens building, planting, and composting (658 volunteer hours)
- We encourage community members to grow their own organic food by providing accessible garden space in the community garden (34 garden beds, scholarship beds available
- We partner with Yup’ik Girl Seafood, owned and operated by a female Alaskan Native from Bristol Bay, and created a Salmon Club that also donates sustainably sourced wild Alaskan Salmon to help relieve food insecurity in our community (188 members, 97 pounds donated)
We provide opportunities for improved mental well-being enabling people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.
- We engage kids through hands on learning and science curriculum teaching how food grows and the importance of caring for our environment (266 kids served)
- We educate adults through our Grow Your Own program with classes on high elevation gardening and by providing seeds and starts to gardeners (500+ served)
We provide opportunities for connection with others to improve social well-being.
- We provide opportunities for volunteering with other gardeners creating social connections.
- We host free Community Events (Soup Night, Seeds, Sips and Songs, Skillshares) that create social cohesion.

Job Description
Slow Food Lake Tahoe seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to shepherd this organization into a new chapter of growth and financial stability as its Executive Director.
The Executive Director will join a talented and dedicated volunteer working board and paid seasonal staff in advancing the mission of SFLT. The Executive Director will be a leader who puts SFLT mission and values into action, inspiring alignment across our programs and building long-term financial security for the organization. While the position is currently part-time, the future vision is to grow to full-time employment
The Executive Director reports to the SFLT board, located in Truckee, Ca. While some remote work is feasible it is expected that the Executive Director will work largely in the North Lake Tahoe area. SFLT operates a virtual office, complemented by monthly in person meetings with board members. The start date is expected to be early fall 2024.
Key initiatives for the first year of being Executive Director include: Fund Development/Public Engagement (70%), Marketing, Communications and Events (20%), and Finance/Operations/Administration (10%):.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fund Development/Public Engagemen
● Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, government, and corporations and seek out new opportunities to significantly grow revenue from grants and donations in the next 1 – 3 years
● Working with the Development Director, develop and execute SFLT fundraising and development plan that is aligned with our mission and values.
● Develop and maintain strong relationships with major donors
● Serve as the public face of SFLT by attending a variety of events, collaboration meetings and other public facing opportunities
● Bring our programs and resources to new audiences, nurturing joint partnerships that expand our reach and minimize barriers to access.
● Lead the team in creating public enthusiasm, support, and recognition for SFLT
Marketing, Communications, and Events:
● Working with Marketing Director develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy
● Set yearly goals for growth of social media accounts, email lists, website visitors
● Steward and grow relationships with key media and partner contacts
● Create an annual report to share with supporters, donors, and community members, highlighting the impact of SFLT’s work
● Working with BoD plan events, secure volunteers, and creating a calendar of events
Finance/Operations/Administration:
● Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and consistent, high quality financial management and administration
● Working with the Treasurer and Board, develop and manage the annual budget and manage budget responsibly and sustainably
● Ensure that the appropriate fiscal control, policies, and operations to protect the financial and other assets of SFLT
● Continuously seek new and creative ways to streamline operational processes, ensuring organizational excellence and effective and efficient working conditions, operations, reporting, communications, and all aspects of SFLT
Requirements
Education/Experience
Concrete and demonstrable experience and other qualifications include and may not be limited to:
● Commitment to Slow Food Lake Tahoe’s Mission and Values
● Bachelor's degree and non-profit or business-related experience
● Fund development, fundraising, and donor relationship skills
● Financial literacy
● Past experience and success in working with a board of directors
● Demonstrated experience in building efficient administrative systems
● Demonstrated ability to build trust with all constituents and able to manage conflict constructively
● Clear and direct interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
● Experience in Google Workspace, Google Sheets, broad social media and website platforms
● Demonstrated commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
● Bilingual in Spanish and English, bicultural a plus

Compensation and Benefits
Although SFLT is currently a very small organization, we recognize the importance of offering a competitive compensation and benefits package to address the increasingly high cost of living in communities around North Lake Tahoe. Compensation for the part-time Executive Director is currently set at an annual salary of $30,000 depending on experience. Benefits include 10 days PTO and 5 holidays of your choice. This position offers a contribution towards a health plan not to exceed $1,000 a year.
